Hi, I’m Dr Amanda Whitehouse.

I’m a Licensed Psychologist who works with children, adults, and families managing anxiety and trauma related to severe food allergies. My goal is to help you stop feeling afraid, stuck, and left out. I can help you find solutions and strategies that allow you live life to the fullest.

I’ve been practicing psychology since 2008, and my food allergy education started when my own son was diagnosed in 2012. The other food allergy families I met locally and online were as anxious as I was. I applied my mental health knowledge and resources to get myself and my own family through the worst, and shifted my practice to a focus on supporting families through the same challenges. This combination of personal experiences and professional knowledge has led to my unique approach to addressing food allergy anxiety therapeutically.

My Approach

I have a deep understanding of what you are going through thanks to my own parenting journey, my son’s allergy adventure, and the stories and perspectives of the many clients I have worked with. Unfortunately, many of the people I’ve met have had their anxiety invalidated as “irrational” or their traumatic experiences dismissed. You can trust that I know firsthand how difficult this path can be, and will bring an open and non-judgmental approach to witnessing your unique story and supporting you in your growth.

My education

I am a Licensed Psychologist in New York state. I earned my bachelor’s degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology from Canisius College in 2002. In 2008, I completed my Ph.D. in Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.

ongoing training

I am a lifelong student and love to learn. Some of my favorite topics I’ve incorporated into my approach in recent years include meditation teacher training, polyvagal theory and strategies, biofeedback techniques, and a variety of emerging trauma treatments.
