What is Biofeedback
Biofeedback refers to any treatment that provides feedback about a biological process, creating awareness of that process and allowing the individual to gain conscious control over it. In other words, body processes that happen involuntarily (heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, skin temperature) can be improved intentionally when the body is given information about them.
Dr. Whitehouse is certified in the following biofeedback techniques, which she uses to enhance treatment outcomes by promoting nervous system regulation.
Safe & Sound Protocol
The Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is an auditory intervention that regulates nervous system functioning using specially filtered music to stimulate the vagus nerve. By inducing a sense of safety, it allows the body to stop scanning for danger and be fully present.
Heart Math
Coherence is a harmonious state where our hearts, minds and bodies are united in cooperation and flow. Personal coherence practices can help calm your nervous system, neutralize stress reactions, and discern better choices.
Microcurrent Neurofeedback
Ultra-microstimulation calms and stabilizes the nervous system, shifting us away from fight/flight responses and into a state of relaxation. It enhances communication between the brain, heart, and gut, leading to improvements in nervous system self-regulation.
