FAQs

accepting and supportive of all regardless of race, color, national origin, disability, age, gender, or sexual orientation

is it normal to be nervous about starting therapy?

It is very common to be uncomfortable when beginning therapy. Many children and adults struggle to recognize their emotions and put them into words. I have found that acknowledging and normalizing that discomfort in a welcoming environment is a great first step toward improving feeling recognition and expression skills.

what if I don’t want to talk about something, or am not ready to discuss a difficult experience?

It can feel very overwhelming and even re-traumatizing to talk about our bad experiences. At intake, you can indicate in your paperwork any traumatic or difficult experiences that you are not yet ready to talk about. It is my job to create a safe space for you to gradually approach these tough things. You are always in control of your session and can decline to discuss or participate in any topic or activity that I suggest.

What if my child is hesitant to talk to you?

Many parents are concerned about their child’s behavior or participation in session. Before I meet your child, I’ll share ideas for discussing therapy and helping them prepare. I invite you to relax and trust my experience, allowing your child to get comfortable at their own pace and give the relationship time to develop. I ask parents to actively participate in sessions so that I can get your perspective and give you suggestions of things to work on outside sessions.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Take the time to read through my website and familiarize yourself with my background and perspectives. If you sense that I may be a good fit based on what you see, contact me to discuss scheduling. When we meet, you are welcome to ask me any additional questions you might have about my approach, what a typical session is like, how I’ve helped others, or my thoughts on what might be most helpful for you.

What medical diagnoses and conditions do you have experience with?

Some of the conditions I’ve worked with related to food allergies include eczema, asthma, IBS, colitis, FPIES, GERD, EoE, cyclical vomiting/sensitive gag reflex, mast cell disorders, ARFID, anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, body dysmorphic disorder, and various autoimmune disorders. I am always eager to learn more, and am open to working with any additional medical needs you might have.

who do you accept as clients?

I work with children and adults of all ages living in New York state. I have worked hard to create online courses, books, podcasts, and other educational resources to help those that I am unable to work with individually.
